Angelo Brown - Family/Youth

Marietta, Georgia

Angelo is a person that exemplifies leadership. He was born to a single mom and had a speech impediment that could have easily sidelined him, but instead he used this as a vehicle to share with others about the power of believing in oneself and overcoming obstacles. He is currently the Chief Learning Officer with Shaping Leaders, a nonprofit company that equips individuals with the skills necessary to be extraordinary leaders. He could have easily stopped here, but he is on several nonprofit boards in his local community, and is active at his church, Piedmont Church in Marietta. He helps to serve the homeless during Thanksgiving and can be seen giving out presents to the underserved during Christmas. He also is an advocate for the importance of a good sound education and has worked with many christian academies in the greater metro Atlanta area in increasing scholarship opportunities for students that normally would not have access to a quality education. His work as a mentor in Marietta keeps him busy, and he is known to all as the person whose heart is truly on his sleeve, and his mission is to help just one more person.

Angelo is an example of what hardwork and perseverance produces. Include intelligence into that recipe and you have Dr. Brown. My brother has an unique skill set that bridges barriers. He hasn't let the circumstances that we came from impede him from being successful and that truly is a testament to his greatness .

I have enjoyed getting to know Angelo and learning why he gets up every morning. He exhibits an extraordinary combination of leadership, compassion, and humility. His engaging smile and his soothing tone inspire people all across the spectrum. He has a story, and he uses that story for good. His faith and his devotion to his young family provide a fantastic example for young people and for those who come from difficult circumstances and backgrounds.

I had the pleasure of growing up with Angelo Brown and despite our age difference (I am ten years younger than him) I always felt our conversations were those of the peer to peer variety. Angelo has the innate ability of verbalizing his messages to the younger generation without talking down or lecturing them. Angelo lives to mold minds and better the world and will never take any shortcuts as he knows the journey is as important as the destination

Angelo is a wonderful family man.... His children have such a beautiful role model!

Angelo really is Dr. Brown! But he is just as comfortable talking to students in elementary and CEOs of large companies. The guy is genuine, caring, a servant and a friend. I don't think he ever met an enemy. I hope he wins because he will not say it, but he deserves this award. More than anyone I know of.

I had the unique experience of working with Angelo for almost two years (our offices were next to each other). During that time, one gets to know the individual not just via work related issues, but on a personal level. Angelo is a natural leader, one gifted in understanding the nuances of leadership. I watched him put his words into action – mentoring, caring and uplifting employees. His words (and behavior) were always chosen to inspire, to correct graciously, and to instill a sense of value. Angelo led by example, yet with a flair of boundless enthusiasm that more than encouraged a willingness to follow. That willingness can be dissembled to one word – trust. His subordinates, peers, and superiors trusted him – regardless of circumstances or requirements. Another word that comes to mind is integrity. With Angelo, what you see is what you get, a man of his word. And then there are results. Angelo took an undermanned staff and exceeded expectations. In fact, the Academic Center for which he had responsibility performed so well that it was habitually the top performer of all the Academic locations in the Metro Atlanta area. Yet his walk and leadership were not limited to the job. Angelo has a natural passion for people, whether it is at the job, at church, or even the marketplace. One cannot help but remember an encounter with Angelo. If ever I had the assets to establish a business or enterprise, I would beg Angelo to lead, organize, and operate it for I intrinsically know it will be successful beyond my wildest imagination.

Angelo is one of those "truly unique and rare" individuals. Not only is he kind, sincere and intentional, he cares deeply about people and seeks ways to help others in his community. As all good leaders do, he listens intently, welcomes input and seeks counsel from a wide variety of peers as he seeks to "make a difference." I am proud and honored to call him my friend.

I met Angelo last year and we have quickly become friends. Angelo has the ability to instantly bond with those he meets by displaying genuine care for that person and their life. That care is what makes him not only a great leader, but also an amazing friend.

Angelo has the kindest heart and wisest mind of anyone I know. He will always take time for a person in need, and you always feel better after spending time in his presence. He is an encourager, a teacher, a mentor, a spiritual leader and a wonderful father. I can think of nobody more deserving of this award!

I consider Angelo Brown one of the most remarkable persons I have had the opportunity to meet. Angelo is a natural leader and he has a keen sense to recognize the individual needs of all that enter into his presence. His heart is open and available for those less fortunate than him. I met Angelo when we were both in the Leadership Cobb Class of 2014. During that time, I was able to witness Angelo working on several projects that assisted needy persons in the community. I support his nomination for the John Maxwell award.

I am a better person having met Angelo and I am sure that I am not the only one that feels this way. He is the kind of person that we should all strive to be like. He raises people up and helps them to see their full potential. I am certain Merriam Webster is in the process of making Angelo Brown a synonym for "Leader".
